Learn How to Play Poker - Online Poker (Internet Poker) and live Poker Games
This is an online poker guide giving you a basic idea of how to play Texas Hold’em Poker.
The Button Position
Texas hold’em is unique in the poker world in that each of the poker players sitting at the table gets a turn to be the card dealer. The card dealer is usually signaled by a button or a place mark. This tool is rotated to different poker player after every poker hand. Generally, the marker moves clockwise after each hand is played.
The Blinds
In order to make sure there is some action on the pot in each hand in Texas Hold’em there is an initial bet made into the pot before any playing cards have been dealt. The two players who are to the left of the dealer bet this money and are called the blinds; the poker player to the immediate left of the dealer is the small blind, and the card player to the left of the small blind is called the big blind. The amount of money the blinds have to bet or “anti” will differ depending on the poker table you are playing at. However, generally the blinds have to bet the table minimum.
The Deal
In Texas Hold’em each player is initially dealt two cards. These cards constitute the beginning of your poker hand. They are secret, and only for your to see.
Raise, Fold or Call
The poker player sitting to the left of the big blind begins the betting. This player has three different options for executing his poker strategy. He can call the bet, raise the bet, or fold his hand. To begin a betting cycle, most players who are in this position either raise or fold. However, as the game progresses, it is possible to call. This is done by matching the bet of the last opponent.
The Flop
After the first round of betting around the poker table, three community cards or flop cards are dealt. These poker cards constitute the major factor in effecting poker strategy. They are normally put in the middle of the table, always face up. The flop cards constitute the major building block for building your hand, in conjunction with your hidden cards.
The Flop Betting Round
The second poker betting round: occurring after the cards flop has been turned. Starting with the first player to the left of the dealer who has not folded, they have the ability to either check or bet. If the card player chooses to check than he is still in the pot, but has not either checked or bet. If the player chooses to bets, the other card players in the round have to either meet or raise the bet. Otherwise, the card player must fold.
